The Workshop

Biodance or Biodanza is a technique created in the sixties  by the Chilean psychologist  Rolando Toro Araneda (Concepción, 1924 -  Providencia, February 16 2010) when, while he was working at the Santiago del Chile’s University Psychiatric Hospital, he started to utilize the dance to cure the patients. Biodance combines creative expression and body sensitive experience with music and community-building to create movements that will allow each individual to achieve a healthy lifestyle in relation with others and the environment. Biodance is described as a human integration system; it wants to let the dancer reach “vivencia”, the sensation to be living here and now, trough music, movements and the connections with the group. Highlights of Biodance.

According to biodanza teachers, the regular practice of biodanza increases the general state of mental and physical health and helps gain awareness of individual movements, body posture, expressive qualities, communicational skills, body language, and respect. By releasing stress during the biodanza session, the person tends to be more tolerant and communicative, and can thus improve social skills. According to some studies, biodanza can also relieve various psychological problems, regulate blood pressure, and improve the immune system.

The Workshop

Naturopathy: naturopathy (also known as natural medicine) is an alternative medical system that focuses on natural remedies and the body's vital ability to heal and maintain itself. Naturopathy concentrates on identifying destructive aspects in lifestyles that lead to imbalances. Naturopathic ideology focuses on naturally-occurring and minimally-invasive methods, trusting to the healing power of nature. Such treatments as "synthetic" drugs, radiation, and major surgery are avoided. the basic principles of naturopathy are: do no harm, recognize the healing power of nature, find and eliminate the cause of poor health, acknowledge the total person. Naturopathic philosophy favours a holistic approach; it comprises many different treatment modalities: diet and lifestyle advice may be substantially similar to that offered by non-naturopaths, and acupressure may help reduce pain. This is why Dr. Senthil Kumar utilize different techniques like hydrotherapy, acupressure, yoga and diet to balance the organism.

Highlights of the Therapy

Naturopathy involves educating people in self-control and teaching and implementing the right habits of living, thereby preventing disease by following the laws of nature. It improves constitutional health by using the life force within us to effect cures and create internal defences against ill-health and disease.

In the massage firm and deep strokes are done using rhythmic straight line strokes.

In the massage the hands, thumb, fingers, knuckles, fist and elbow are all used at different places.

The use of elbow and fist allows the giver to go much deeper into the body and thus helping in working at levels, which are not usually possible.

The massage begins with soft joint release and soft strokes. This lets the body come into an acceptance for deeper work. Then the strokes are given depending on the location, the stress accumulated, stiffness and the receivers’ willingness to release and open him for deeper work. The receiver is allowed to express and let go into the process.
